I finally did it! THE 5D, MARK II IS MINE AT LAST! Yes, I’m fully aware that there’s a Mark III out now, but until I can consider myself more “pro,” I am 100% happy with my II. So happy. Unbelievably happy. It’s not just this great camera that I’ve been lusting over for the past few years – it’s a symbol of so many things (Warning: corniness quickly approaching).

When I first became a real student of photography, when I first started caring about shutter speed, ISO and confusing myself with the inverse relation between the aperture values and what they actually meant (the higher the f-stop the smaller the opening? WHAT?!), I thought I’d never understand any of it enough to own my own DSLR, let alone something of 5D caliber. My 40D has been instrumental in my desire to learn everything I can about the art, as well as the science, of photography. She’s been reliable the last 4 years, but I think I’m ready for my full-frame now =)

Armed with my new toy and still favorite lens (20mm), I spent an evening after work acquainting myself with this awesome machine! Where better to take photos than my neighborhood shopping center? So I walked around and clicked…clicked…and clicked some more. I think it’s safe to say I’m in love with this camera. Please don’t judge me – I’m not a materialistic person, but what this thing can do, especially when the light is being difficult? 6400 ISO?! SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! =)

Not Quite 1: Lorelai

She is the perfect combination of her mom dad. In certain angles, she’s the spitting image of Matt. I remember his face when we were growing up, and Lorelai’s got that look about her that screams, “I’m my daddy’s girl!” In other angles, she’s what Rochelle looked like as a baby. I’ve seen pictures of her when she was young and Lorelai’s itty bitty features mirror them almost exactly.

My little niece/goddaughter is turning a year old this week and I absolutely can’t believe it. A year old already?! I feel so blessed to be here to watch her grow up.

Almost 2: Charlie & Alex

Charlie and Alex were turning two years old in a couple of months’ time, so Iya asked if I could take pictures of them for the invitations.

“I just need their faces,” she said.

So before the Celtics-Lakers game that Sunday afternoon, I took a quick drive to Lakewood and spent the morning with these little girls. It only took a few minutes to get headshots of them, but Charlie and Alex kept pointing to their shoes; shoes which, Iya and Chris told me, they identified with going outside. Since the girls were so insistent, we took them outside to get a little sun.

Of all the fun photoshoots I’ve done of Charlie and Alex, this was probably one of my favorites because it was so spontaneous. We let them walk around the front of the townhouse, and they held hands like only sisters and best friends could. They’re so adorable…and so sneaky. They kept trying to run off into the street. At one point, Iya was watching Alex as I took pictures of Charlie. Charlie stood in the driveway and waited for her mom to turn her back and then attempted to make a run for it. Nice try =)

Iya finally got them to sit still on the curb. They spent the remainder of their time outside smelling the flowers. Alex was so into it. Charlie kept looking at her sister, wondering what the big deal was. haha! Oh gosh, I love these girls so much!
