“Layer by layer, art strips life bare.” ~ Robert Musil // Oh that movie - #ToAllTheBoysIveLovedBefore - it’s been out for months and everyone and their dog kept telling me to watch it. I could relate, they said. She’s so you, they insisted. I’m usually all in for corny rom-coms, but for some reason, I just wasn’t in the mood for it and I avoided clicking on it every time I happened to be Netflixing and chilling. After watching it, of course I loved it, because I’m Lara Jean, always just trying to protect myself 🤨 I’ve written letters no one will ever read, write in a journal that won’t be available for public consumption until I’m gone, I take photos of seemingly inconsequential things and places because they made me feel something. But sometimes I don’t want to bother with any of it BECAUSE it’s gonna make me bare, it’s gonna make me feel things. When I’m writing for no one else’s benefit but mine, I’m infinitely more candid, more honest, and that, let’s face it, can be a scary thing to face.
I didn’t have to reschedule a single holiday session between October and December due to weather, but have had to reschedule Cruz’s 1st birthday shoot three times in the last two weeks because of all the rain. Well, good things come to those who wait because rather than settling for a gloomy backdrop in the cold, today we got still-chilly-but-at-least-it’s-sunny outdoors. Exactly a year ago today, I was taking this cutie’s newborn photos! Oh the time that goes oh so fast! Happy 1st Birthday, Cruzie!!!
These last couple of birthdays have been bittersweet for me, because my 39th birthday was the last time I got to see and speak to Tatay before he passed away. I got home late from work the two days after that so I missed visiting hours at the hospital and his homecoming the day before. It’s a regret I’ve carried with me the last two years, until I’m reminded time and again that I have 39 years of memories with him 💕 So today, to celebrate his second year up in heaven, I’m remembering his every joke and tall tale, each car ride from school, every dish he ever cooked, every crispy dollar bill he rained on his grandkids, every piece he played on the piano, every song he sang ❤️ Miss and love you, Tatay ❤️ [Also, apparently I love navy blue with white polka dots ☺️]
Just love, and let the world be your Valentine ❤️ #HappyValentinesDay
“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including YOU.” ~ Anne Lamott // 40 was the year I made the most effort to take care of myself, and it’s unbelievable just how much work it took - how much it takes - to do that. But when you do - such FREEDOM. Taking this into 41 - sh*t’s gonna be fun 😉 Thank you, everyone, for helping me care for myself this past year, and for all the birthday wishes and greetings!!! Don’t know what I did to be deserving of such love 💕 #41willbefun // 📷: @jovalynn
“People who think too much before they act don’t act much.” ~ Jimmy Buffet // Last week during a meeting with my boss, Nicole (that’s her up there ⬆️ - it’s her bday today! 🎉), I was going over a project I wasn’t sure I could deliver on time. After listening to me ramble on, and probably sensing the minor panic in my voice, she finally said, “You’re overthinking this.” And then she simplified it for me - essentially handing me all the info I need to finish. That’s me - the overthinker. I’d like to say I’m not as bad as I used to be, but if I’m being honest, it’s still a noticeable issue I’m trying to work through, and I know I can come out if because, hey, I’ve done it in a number of situations and it feels amazing 💗 Overthinkers of the world - let’s unite! (Is that too presumptuous? Do I sound bossy or pretentious? Who would listen to me?...JUST KIDDING, GUYS 😆) #MotivationMonday
